Anyone have any suggestions on a simple, portable depth finder? I know, a long stick works great..... but I would like to have something that might give me a clue while underway. Ideally, I can move it from boat to boat easily, has self-contained power, and is just depth. IDK about fish finder, just depth.

Look into one of the many ice fishing fish finders. They may fit your needs. I own Marcum units which are more than you probably need. I know Humminbird makes a couple units that work on both hard and soft water without a transducer change. Don?t know the model number but they are very popular and easy to look up on the internet.

Maybe something like this?

I currently have a Humminbird wifi fishfinder I like but it has been discontinued. I carry it in my blind bag with a good length of braided fishing line. I like knowing water depth when I'm in a place I don't know. When it quits I most likely get one of these.
