Christmas break bird hunts

Good morning all, now that it is sunday, and I am not legally allowed to hunt, I thought to put up a couple of hunting pictures from this weeks adventures. My season is ending on New Years eve, and it has been a blur. All your stories and pictures have kept me motivated and entertained, thanks all! I especially like the puppy pictures, so keep em coming :)

All season, while walking out of my favorite duck spot, I have been hearing grouse in the bush. So far, I have not had much chance as I was weighted down with gear, and the dog was on a lead, gun unloaded ect. This week, ducks are not possible. I have run out of steam, the ducks are super wary, and my spot has had all the cover frozen and snapped off. It looks like someone had harvested grass off of a mud flat... Needless to say, there is no way I could fool a duck from any kind of hide one a stubbly mud flat.

This week, with the extra days off I thought I to try my luck grouse hunting. I have only ever bagged a few grouse in the past, and I think it is likely owing to the fact that I don't like the "snappiness" of grouse hunting. Boy was I missing out before I had a dog!

The birds were all pointed by Moose, and with some lucky shooting, I managed a few. The bunny, on the other hand, was pointed. I saw it take off and made a half-hearted shot and was pretty sure I missed. Moose broke point on shot(tsk tsk Moose), and disappeared into the bush. It only took me a few seconds to locate him with all the squealing as he had managed to catch a very alive rabbit! I didn't find a single pellet hole... Good boy Moosie (I'm glad he doesn't try that with the cat, who would eat him for breakfast!). Guess I will have to work on steadiness, but nonetheless I am quite proud of him, and there was excellent progress over the season. It was a fun and exhausting season, and I am glad to have ended it on a positive note.

Happy new year to you all,

Jon
