Thanks to Carl for his Y board post and buffie pattern! Can anyone help me get started with some Brant patterns. I've drawn one so far and it is a little funny looking... I'm also looking to do a few GE and OS.

I made a nice pile of sawdust and came up with 8 Y boards this afternoon, and have a full sheet of masonite ready for the jig saw and router. I'll post a pic of the Y boards when the paint dries...

Is there a good book out there with silhouette patterns?

Thanks,
Dave

Scour the Mighty Layout Boys website. I think it is under "reference..." , anyway, there are a lot of patterns posted there.

Here is the Y board, primed...

And the stack. I made a little rabbet for the widdle duckies to slide into...

And my first try at a brant silly...

Where do you attach the anchor line? On the fixed board? Near the middle, or does that make it spin? What color do you paint the Y boards? Black? Grey?

Thanks,
Dave

I attach my lines at the tip of the fixed arm. That way they will face into the wind or with the tide. If you put it in the the center, they will spin like a top!

Dave,

looks like you've got a good start so far.

I'd add material under the brants tail and get rid of that point. All it's gonna do is hang up on stuff in the boat. Round it off a bit. Same with the bill. Round it off and it'll be less likely to snag or snap.

Also make sure you seal your masonite well. A few coats of spar varnish should suffice.

Good luck with your project.

Brasnt look good. As dave says round the tail, will reduce paint wear. Bill is a little big, and round it off. Finally, the profile if elegant, but brant often don't show as much of a rolled breast as yours does. the breast adn neck are more of a vertical straight line rather than the "S" you have. That suggestion will not help you kill any more brant and is minor.

I''d for sure make the functional changes dave suggests.

I'll post up my brant sleds...

Thanks Tod! This is a great board, everybody is extremely helpful.

Who knows, maybe I'll make a batch of sleds next. Then I'll need a bigger boat for all the gear!

Happy Holidays,
Dave
