Or you all might think this is a fake question.
I had my skeg repaired where they welded on a new piece. I liked the place that did the work and the guy who owns the shop took quite a bit of time with me explaining the various differences of casting on motors over the years. He actually had electron micrographs of the various castings. Figure the motor I have is one of the worse in terms of welding as the casting during this time wasn?t so good.
Got my lower unit back. It looks like the repair was done well and it should last some time. I do have a couple of questions though.
It has now leaked a very small amount of lower unit oil. I am not blaming him for this but am asking if the welding of the new piece caused damage inside the lower unit seals and orings? Could the leaking oil be temporary? It isn?t much at all, a few drops. He also put the prop back on in front of me and he torques that but down harder than I ever have before. Could be this be contributing to the small leak? He did advise me to change the lower unit oil before running the motor.
And here is the real dumb question. I don?t think I have ever noticed this hole before. Is it a water drainage hole of something else.
