Carvers post your working black duck decoy pics.

I'm getting the carving bug again and am going to start next week on my first black duck of what I hope will be a rig of 10 by spring. Please post your black duck decoy photos if you don't mind sharing. I'm trying to get some ideas on a design that will not roll much.

I'm going to try to make each pose different; caller, skimmer, preener, sleeper, low head, swimmer, shallow feeder (head under) and feeder butt.

I remember seeing a Hank Garvey black that looked very stable (on the old site) but couldn't find any pictures on image search.
Thanks,

Here's one from a couple years ago. Not much call for Black Ducks around here when we're lucky to just to see one a season.

Such pretty black ducks.

I make mine nice and ugly, so I don't feel so bad when the dog is sitting on the decoy bags, the dekes get dropped in the bottom of the boat, stacked on one another, shot......basically abused as much as some plastic Carry-Crap dekes.

I won't even shock you with the photos.

Case in point: at the ramp a few weeks back, I had a bunch of dekes on the ground as I was rearranging the gear in the boat for the ride home. couple of guys looked at the dekes and commented that they looked 100years old. I think I made my first around '98 or so.

But they work.

thanks jode. i feel i've progressed a lot.. but i'm still not happy with my work. if i was, i guess i wouldn't try! this is only my 3rd year so maybe there is still hope for me :)

Here's one I did back during the summer and tried to paint during the Malarky get-together way back when. Just a Godin pattern rip-off, carved in cork. Now that I've got a black duck mount, I wish I had that bird to do over. I can't wait to make a black now that good reference is at hand.

Thanks for all of the photos! I've got some really good ideas now. I'll post pictures as I complete the birds.

Here are examples of the cork black duck decoys that I make. Gunners for the dedicated hunter- no frills, just pure duck!
