Somebody got a little reward for going today

Alright this morning Wills (yes that is his real name) and I went out to the river for a total bust. We weren't expecting much since we had already decided for him to get back in town for family arrangements we would start picking up by 9:00a.m, but we were on the road home instead by 8:30 after eating breakfast. We then decided to switch things up and head out to his lease for an afternoon shoot, still not expecting anything spectacular. I met him out there around 2:00 this afternoon. After the game warden came and checked us and left the woodies were coming off the refuge and straight into our little hole. A pair comes in, I swing on the hen but right before pulling the trigger pull on the drake instead. Bam, feathers everywhere but he keeps flying just nowhere near as strong as before. He goes down in the drainage ditch and I chase after him. As I peak over the hill he looks like he's about to jump so I put another shot into him. His head drops, I reach for him and grab one leg, seeing the shine from a band I start hootin' and hollerin' while running back to the blind like a little kid. I get back to the blind, look at the band and realize he's double banded. Round two of hootin' and hollerin' comes and goes then I start looking at the bands in more detail. Turns out the second band is a reward band for $100. Round three of hootin' and hollerin' and by this time my buddies are looking at me like i've lost my mind since i'm sitting in the mud just as happy as could be laughing my head off. Finally when i calm down enough to tell them what i've discovered they're all jealous as could be. As would anyone in their position. Five minutes later another trio of woodies come in, one more shot and I'm limited out on the little speed demons. Who says it doesn't pay to go duck hunting?

had it not been for a chunk of his beak missing, he would've been going on the wall. I've been trying to get a nice fat, colorful woody drake for the wall this year but the one's i've been shooting have all been "defective". Hopefully I'll be able to get some birds for the wall by the end of this season, but the way things have been going, I'm not holding my breath.

Duck mounts have fake bills. You don't need the original. They cast up generic ones for different species. Take him to Blake. You haven't plucked him yet have you?

Well dang it Eric. Now you tell me. Yeah I ate him up good last night before I went out. Oh well now I get to go shoot another one.

OOOOOOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHHNNNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Next thing you'll tell me you mailed the actual bands in. Just call in the numbers. I think If I was you I'd save the next nice woody for the mount and put the bands on him.

since when did they start not taking the whole band. you've gotta be kidding me. HAHA no I called in the numbers this afternoon, I'm excited to find out where he was from. Hopefully he isn't from Stevenson like the last banded bird I shot.
