"Go Anywhere" Woodies

I had a request to carve a pair of full bodied wood ducks that would be able to "cling to a branch or be propped up as if sitting on a rock on the side of the pond". So the carving was the easy part, but had to wrack my brain a bit as how to make them multi-purpose. I came up with the idea to modify those flexible camera tripods into decoy stands. Luckily I found some on Ebay for $12, so even if it didn't work, no big deal. I got them and was able to modify them to accept a post which the decoys would sit on, and could fullfill the requirement of clinging to a branch, or sit on a rock. Decoys are cork bodied with cedar heads, PVC Legs, and traditions acrylic paint.

a small piece of camo burlap easily hides the base.

High tech woodies look great, changing up the presentation like that should have really positive results for your friend.

Good morning, Bill~

You have certainly explored new territory with this creative solution....did you consider lashing them to drones so they could go to roost later in the day?

All the best,

SJS

With the right paint job, those drones could replace spinners . . . .

Those will work, they look good, except the new fangled "feet". Concave bottom (to rest on logs) with stake hole should fit most situations. That's just my thinkin,' as I Dumb Things Down = Less Is More.

I see what your saying Vince, and agree to a point, but these will sit on any branch that will support the weight of the decoy, and any rock, regardless of the shape. I think you would run into some issues with a simple base like you are describing. It would work most of the time, but not all of the time.
