So i was given a thoughtful tremendous gift from a member here Jon Yenulonis sent me an unused set of scaup plans. Im working out how to put this project together so by happen chance i know where there is a 40 HP 20 inch shaft outboard. Can i make the scaup with a 20 inch transom? Also its a remote no tiller and i would have to put a small side console in but the upside is its been in storage for 15 plus years and its $200 dollars. I also have a trailer that is perfect size but its a roller trailer can it be used on a wooden boat would i have to thicken the floor or is it easier to just put bunks on it? For sale also is two 35 hp outboards long shaft and remote steer.

One more can this boat be made with 4x8 ply or do I have to buy the 5x10 sheets?

I guess you could start with most any size pieces to scarf into the size panel required for each individual part. All depends on how many scarf points you wish to deal with.

I used 5x10 for my Honker.. 19'+

I made my Scaup 17' I added 2" to the gunnels I used 4x8.

I personally can not imagine not having a tiller. It is a small boat. IMO .. Remote steer will cripple it. That being said, Look into what it takes to convert it to a tiller. I have a 50hp on mine...

Shoot me in the head before I put less on.. a 50 (2 stroke or 4 stroke) is the minimum that I can imagine... I want more power on mine. I have about 300# of decoys in mine too....

Thanks phil i have a guy locally selling hydrotek BS 1088 4x8 i planned on using i assumed if i scarfed 4x8 sheet together i would have about a 15'6'' long panel and didn't know if it was long enough. He wants 90 dollars for a sheet of 3/8.

Thanks looks a lot like a 17 TDB the way you have it configured. I will think of something for steering i don't want to deal with all the hassle of a wheel when picking up decoys.

Convert the motor from remote to tiller steer, others have done it!

It is very similar to tdb17. About 6" less beam. That was my inspiration. I made this like a tank, so maybe a 40 would be fine. I have 20 oz of glass on the hull, and a heavier top deck and an extra foot of length. I just want the ability to get up on plane and GO when I want to. I would HATE my boat with a 40. Just me and the dog, loaded will top out right about 32mph. I think the Scaup is an excellent boat though.
