NDR-Looking for Dehydrator Advice

My old dehydrator has officially died and now am looking for a new one, but not looking to spend a fortune. I typically only use a dehydrator once a year to make venison jerky from ground up venison. Any thoughts or suggestions as to brand and where to purchase from would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

If just once a year, why not use the oven??

Because zero chance our lab(ok my wife's lab) wouldn't stick her nose in the slightly cracked open oven or lick the side of the door of the slightly open oven. I figure the cost of decent dehydrator is cheaper than a vet bill--lol!

If I have a dehydrator, it gives me a great excuse to spend more time out in my man shed making the jerky. Doesn't hurt that my recliner, fully stocked refrigerator, big screen tv, and all my waterfowl hunting gear and toys are out there. Did I also mention that cell phone reception is marginal, which is a great thing, due to being inside the metal building?[cool]

LOL, all good and valid reasons to buy a dehydrator!
I will have to check and see what brand I have. It?s round countertop model I got 15 years ago.
Still works fine.

I would like to get one also to dry figs from my trees. I don't know a thing about them. But I get 12-1400 a year and really like dried figs and would like to find something. I'm assuming these things can be used for anything you want to dehydrate.

We have 2. The nesco gardenmaster that takes the round trays and an older version of the cabelas 80 liter commercial. I'd say for jerky don't get the round trays, although the gardenmaster is a well regarded unit. Our cabelas has been great, only gripe is that the trays are powder coated steel, not stainless or plastic.

I've done other fruit but never figs. All our figs get made into fig preserves.

We have the Excalibur which has worked great for morels, jerky, fruit.

However the similar looking LEM appears to have better controls and is about $100 less expensive.

Looking very seriously at the LEM products. Was hoping on some sort of black Friday deal, but haven't seen any so far.

There is a fairly new brand that makes heavy duty equipment to Prepare, Process, and Preserve meat and other things. The company is called Meat! I have seen many videos from commercial butchers who use that brand because of the quality of the products. Such as the Bearded Butchers https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC0r6S4hmYdRcDnw7zey7Myg/videos

I have never used any of the Meat! products but will some day get me one of their grinders. But they also carry dehydrators. I have not seen or heard anything about the quality of the dehydrators but if they are anything like their other products then they should be good. You might check them out and search for a few reviews or videos on them.

Well I ordered the 6 tray dehydrator from Meat! Reviews are great as well as the specs of the dehydrator when compared to others. Thanks for the heads up

Glad I could help.

Please come back to this after you do some dehydrating and let us all know how it did and your thoughts.
