About 2 months from now will be the Annual Show of the Long Island Decoy Collectors Association. Most of the exhibit space features antique decoys, art and other sporting collectibles. This year's "feature" will be our Third Semiannual CONTEMPORARY DECOY EXHIBITION. Birds can be entered the morning of the Show - or mailed in beforehand.

Here is an excerpt from the announcement:

The 2020 Annual Show will display and offer for sale thousands of antique decoys and other sporting collectibles. It will also feature the 3rd Contemporary Decoy Exhibition. The Exhibition provides a venue for the decoys that will become the collectible antique decoys of the future. Like the former U. S. National Decoy Show ? which closed its doors in 1994 - this event offers a showcase for carvers who continue to practice this uniquely American art form.

The Exhibition strives for simplicity - for both the carvers and for the viewing public. Simpler, more durable decoys ? true hunting decoys - will compete in the Al McCormick Gunning Class. It will focus on 5 traditional Long Island species plus a 6th "carver's choice" species this year. The Shang Wheeler Heritage Class will show more elaborate and stylized decoys ? "smoothies" with more detailed carving and painting from the most skilled and experienced hands. All entries will be displayed on tables - there will be no tank-testing. Novice and professional carvers will compete together. Carvers can bring their birds in person on Saturday morning or send them earlier by mail.

The Show will also feature a tribute to Al McCormick - Long Island's "Mr. Decoy" - who for several decades taught many scores of hunters to make their own gunning decoys in Al's wonderful style.

Saturday, March 7, 2020 9 am ? 4 pm IBEW Hall #25 370 Motor Parkway, Hauppauge, NY

Admission is $ 7 for adults; children 12 and under get in free; parking is free.
