Cormorant hunting in Canada

Contact Knutson's. They sell Carry-lite cormorant decoys. A base to work off of in developing your own pattern(s).

I am happy to hear this news and I hope various states below the border follow suit. They are nasty birds that need to be controlled.

Cormorants are NOT federally protected in Canada, therefore Provinces are able to determine how to manage them. Cormorants are under federal jurisdiction in the US. The USFWS is finishing the rule making to allow control of double-crested cormorants by states/tribes in open waters or by private landowners at aquaculture facilities. I don't think they are looking at any options that allow hunting seasons. I suspect that all shooting will be done by authorized personnel from agencies or tribes.

Not sure if your interested in silhouettes but we used to have a scull boat hunter / artist, Greg Stender, who shared a some of his work with us in the early 2000s. He posted this cormorant combo silly/full body pattern and painting tips:

I acquired one from Greg for my Scull boat, the only action picture I have was taken in the dark after a CT River hunt:

My wife liked it enough we got another for my father-in-law.

They now grace our mantel ready to be clamped on and taken for another hunt:

Kill a bunch of them,
