Yamaha 25hp Two Stroke Electric Start Question

Eric,
I'm away from home all day, today. I'll snap a photo and post tomorrow.
If I had to guess, I'd say under the cowling.

Thank you Dave. If I can round up all the parts I'll have a few more questions like "Where does this wire go?"

Eric

Eric, on mine it is mounted on the lower front side of the shifter box on the tiller.

OK, What would be needed to install electric start on a 2006 short shaft 30hp Yamaha?? I know Dave could figure it out. Motor is in mint condition and runs perfect but a BEAR to start when cold first thing in the morning.

Take your model number to the link below and pull up the parts diagrams. Swap the M in your model number with an E and it will bring up the electric start motor. Then you'll have to look for the differences between the two models and get those parts. There are some aftermarket kits as well. Ebay and Amazon searches may be of help.

Those help a lot. Thanks. After I round up all the parts I may need more help in wiring. You've been warned! :)

I need to do this with my 25 Merc.
Getting to old for yanking on a pull starter!

I have been hunting out of my one-man sneak box this season. 15hp pull start,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, even tho it starts just fine,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, I miss my electric start. [cool]

I didn't even consider a neutral safety in my starter addition didn't run across one in my research into the diagrams to prompt it.. I guess that I better be sure to not crank it when in gear!

Having said that, I did leave the motor in gear at idle BOTH loading and unloading the boat when I was out Tuesday. I don't think I've ever done that and I did it twice in one day?!?!!?!?!?!?

Given the size of the Broadbill and the fact I put a 25 on it and my son and his friends use it, there is no way I'd put a starter on it w/o the safety switch. That thing would flip in before you knew what happened. I had a friend start his motor in gear and he went into the lake. The only thing that saved him was a deer hunter heard his cries and called marine police who just happened to be close. He got very lucky. My luck isn't that good :)
