I rolled my boat out of the workshop and got it registered yesterday.

I stopped at the gas station and filled the gas tank, then put it back in the shop. There is some of the paint I want to cure a bit more before I put it in the water.

I decided to make myself a seat. I used some scrap metal I had laying around. I made it witl three legs so it always sits solid and will not rock back and fourth if sitting on something uneven.

I have a swivel for the seat that will mount on the base. I don't have any stainless bolts today.

My seat will look pretty much like this after it is finished. I have go get the base powder coated before I put it together.

Thanks Ed and Geo. I have enjoyed this bunch of guys here like you. It makes this project seem like a group project. Lord knows I got several good ideas here I would not have had otherwise. I have met several folks here that I consider my friends now. That is just an extra plus in addition to learning how to build a boat. As soon as I get some numbers stuck on the sides, I will take her out on my next day off.

Thanks so much for sharing your build with us. Without a doubt you have inspired others to take on a similar project. Your boat looks great and I wish I could be at the christening. I've never ridden in a Cackler but want to and have always loved that design.

Congratulatons and Merry Christmas.

Nice work Dave!!! I really love how the paint turned out, and it's unique to you! I'm jealous. I received my "MALLARD" plans a couple weeks ago but won't be able to start til' spring if even then.

Have a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Thank you Eric. I am not sure if I have inspired anyone or not. Truth is, it was YOU who inspired me. One day awhile back, I was surfing the net and stumbled across this site. I read about your Scaup build. The process intrigued me. I bought Scaulp study plans then later purchased "Mallard" plans, but exchanged them for Cackler plans after talking to folks on this site and Sam Devlin himself. I live close to him so I went to see him. He suggested I build the Cackler for MY needs.

I had a bit of a rocky start here with Steve Sutton. I suspect he had a bad day. I think some of my stupid questions made him think I was being a smart a**. The people here have been a real help to me. I was given new ideas, help with "how to" and also things to avoid. I am sure my boat would not have turned out as it did had I done it all on my own. I salute you for creating this site. For me, it turned out to be "just the thing."

Merry Christmas to you and yours also.

I want to thank all of the guys who responded kindly to my postings. It is appreciated. I still have a way to go in finishing the Dodger and a few other things, but the boat proper is pretty much done.

Thank you Derek, John and Matt.

Kind regards and Merry Christmas. I have appreciated your support.

Derek, I still want to explore the potholes with you (that WAS you wasn't it?)... maybe next summer some time. Since we live fairly close to each other, it may be a real hoot to get together.

Dave
