Hello everyone,

I just rediscovered this great site after studying Eric's Scaup page when my buddy and I built a Devlin Snow Goose for him a couple of years ago.

Now I'm ready to build another boat and am pretty set on the Scaup even though the Snow Goose works well for the type of hunting we do. I live in NW Montana five minutes away from a Flathead River/Lake launch ramp. We typically travel between two and six miles by boat to a spot where we can drive the boat into cattails to hunt from the boat. Later in the season we travel by boat but hunt from a shore blind, hiding the boat up or down stream.

I'm a golden retriever guy, I have had three masters hunters and two qualified all age field trial dogs, My eight year old has an open win and is just a few points shy of his FC title. Right now we have a 12 year old, an eight year old, a five month and eight week old pup. I hunt all my field trial dogs because thats what its all about.

Anyway this is a great site and I'm pleased to join up.

Great to see you on board. Did you get that pup from Lee you were telling me about? Lee and I communicated via e-mail just last week. Cassie is getting close to going into heat and this time I'm bound and determined to breed her.

Hi Eric,

This is a great site, thank you for putting in all of the hard work maintaining it.

I did get that pup from Lee last summer, Alex just six months old now and is with Carol Kacklemeyer in So. Calif. getting his breakout training. She actually has our pup along with two littermates, so it is a family reunion of sorts. I really like him but he looks more like a Chessy than a Golden, "not that thats a bad thing". A month after we got Alex we received word from Jackie Mertens, she is Yoda and Cody's breeder, that a breeding between her bitch Paws ( Paws is a littermate to our Yoda and she has over thirty all age points and 20-something derby points), and a high producing male named Bro finally took. Anyway we couldn't pass on that opportunity so we now have two pups and two older dogs in the house.

You might think about breeding Cassie to Rosita Wraith's dog Bro if it's not too tight a breeding. Bro is the sire behind Emberain Rugby, Topbrass Goodwill hunting, FC AFC Beau, Lee's great male Casey and a lot of other really nice performance Goldens. I have Rosita's phone number at home if you want it. BTW alex has Bro as a grandfather and Bro is the sire of our new pup Gus.

How has your hunting been? Are you still using the Scaup? Are you happy with it? I'm going to start my boat project when it warms up this spring.

Hunting season just started. Slow but not too bad. We've been out two mornings and did okay all things considered.

Are any of the studs you mentioned in the southeast?

The scaup was sold a few years back. I built a BBII and really like it.

Eric,

Judy Rassmussen has four really nice Golden males and she winters in Madison Florida. I just flew back there to pick up my new Topbrass pup two weeks ago. I'll get her phone number when I go home for lunch. Her males are named AFC Topbrass Goodwill Hunting, Topbrass Band on the Run, Steeplehill Ranger and FC Emberain Beau Geste. You can look up their pedigrees on K9Data.com to compair to Cassies. Judy is a very knowledgeable Golden person having developed many titledGoldens over the past thirty years. She spends summers out here in Montana training and trialing her dogs on our circuit.

Good luck, you couldn't go wrong with any of her wonderful males, Band is a half brother to my Yoda and is placing consistantly as are all of her dogs.

I am in Lakeside across the lake from you, I'm sure we have used the same boat ramps.
If you would care to talk about boats, dogs, ducks or whatever reply here or my email is in the profiles.
