A couple of my boys and I took our 3 yr old lab out for her first experience with upland birds last weekend (preserve). Pleasing to see the basics & manners learned in the blind over 3 waterfowl seasons carry over to upland. Every time she put up a bird, that little fanny went right to the ground and stayed there until she was released . Didn't take her long to figure out how to quarter between the gunners and after the first flush, the lightbulb went on for sure.

Catching the moment,for sure.Great action shots Bob.Always love the dog work.Sorry you didn't make it to Mitchell last week.I thought nobody would show up,then Paul (Procto man), His son and a friend with his yellow lab got there a little after ten.They put birds out for us in a 25 acre field and turned out the lab would point.A couple of them very classy.We moved half of the 16 birds and my feet were killing me.I had to leave and meet Mark in Linton to pick up my boat so called it a day in the field and drove there.Looking forward to meeting you and your boys someday and seeing your outstanding decoys.

I actually like working Guinness so much, when we go pheasant hunting I normally don't even bring a gun. I'll work the dog and let somebody else shoot.
I like it better than shooting pheasant. Now with quail or grouse I'm carrying...

When I had Boss out last year for the first time it took him about 45 minutes to figure out the game. It was absolutely awesome. I got an added bonus when I found out that he points prior to flushing. Its genetic to his line but the breeder doesn't mention it because it's not something she breeds for. She only breeds for waterfowl hunters and not upland. Was I excited when I found that out in the field. I cut my teeth as a youngster hunting pheasants and later switched to waterfowl.
