Carvers Corner
Is the carvers corner set up just for stickies or is it just not fully functional yet? Will decoy related posts just go in the main forum?

Just curious, see a lot of great carvers on the site and look forward to talking decoys.

Our thought is to keep the main forum the location of discussions. Whenever an outstanding informative tutorial type of decoy post is made we will move it to the Carver's Corner after a few days. Users can add more comments if they like. By doing this all the posts will get coverage on the main site yet the instruction type posts will be saved in a common place for easier retrieval. Make sense?

to split discussions out by categories, or by States.....Eric chose long ago to forgo segregation into "topics with seperate forums", because he, and the core group that have been here from the start, have always felt that thats what differentiates this site from all of the others that split out topics........

For people with "multiple" interests; boat building, dogs, decoy carving, photography, biology, trends, whether the migration has started or not, Turkey Hunting, production boats, guns, outboard motor repair, upland hunting, boat rigging, etc. etc. this format has always allowed all of us to view whatever we wanted to view without having to jump back and forth from forum to forum....

No question for people that have a single interest, lets say "decoy carving" , this might seem to be a poor way to manage things but the "intent" of the site has always been to get people interested in a variety of things instead of just one.......

No question this is the reason that several of the new members have stated, "didn't know you guys did decoys here", and thats understandable, but in fact we "do" do decoys here, just not in the "pin point focus" that you are used to over on the other site......

Eric and I talked about this and this is the format that we are going to follow, at least for the forseeable future.....

All posts, regardless of content or subject, will be posted to this forum so that everyone can have a chance to see them, enjoy them, comment on them, and become involved in them without having to switch forums to do that... if the post is "general" in nature, (like the pictures of decoys that have been posted recently), then they will age off of the main page like all other posts, (posts bump back to the top with each new post so its possible that some posts can stay on the first page for a considerable time), and will be available for futrue reference through the search feature....If the subject matter is more technical in nature, (like the "developing a style" post), then once it ages off the first page it will be moved to the "carvers corner" page where anyone that wishes to continue to post to it can do so.....NEW threads cannot be started on the Carvers Corner page and can only be moved there by a modereator or Eric.....

Hopefully this is acceptable to everyone and hopefully all of the new folks will see this as a positive way to make sure that more than "just the hardcore" carvers get exposed to the incredible talent that is available....and just as "hopefully", maybe some of the guys who have been pinpoint focused on carving will enjoy seeing posts on boats, and birds, and guns, and dogs, and mounts, and mushrooms and frogs, and photographs, (some of them olvery old and very out of focus but just as important to the guy that posts them as the one that might be on the cover of the next DU Magazine), and new babys, and girlfriends butts painted like Easter Bunnies, etc. etc.........

I know that the people here think its great to have all you guys, and your talent, on the site, and I also know that they'll all enjoy being a part of your posts and exchanges without having to "switch forums" to do that.....I hope the exchange is "both ways"....time will tell on that one.....

Feel free to shoot me a note if you have any questions....

One of the great things about this site is what Eric and Steve describe as the posting strategy. I really enjoy the broad scope of topics available on a given day.
