As most of you know we hold periodic auction to raise funds to cover the operating expenses for duckboats.net. Dave McCann (career tool and die maker) recently took his vocational and decoy carving experiences and designed a vise just for the decoy carver. Last week Dave introduced his new work holding device to the forum and it was greeted with numerous compliments. Since then Dave has made several more with the first earmarked as a dontation to the site. The management sincerely appreciates Dave's ingenuity and thoughtfullness.

This auction will run until Friday March 5, 9:00 PM CST.
  • All steel construction
  • Extended hitch ball shank for maximum working room between vise and decoy body.
  • Three bolt clamping system yet only the rear hex head bolt needs tightened or loosened to allow adjustment of the decoy body.
  • Decoy support will swing thru a vertical arc of well over 180 degrees. (actually close to 230 degrees) horizontal swing of about 90 degrees.
  • Base comes pre-drilled if you wish to screw or bolt it to your bench.

It's low tech. Submit a bid and look to see if it gets topped. If it does you can bid again until the completion time in the auction description.

Just thought I'd clarify something in Eric's introduction. When Eric describes me as a "career tool and die maker" he is using that term in a generic manner.

In the world of metal working, where accruacy is king, a more accurate term for my job position would be "tool room machinist"

I always knew you were a tool.

Great design Dave. I would have to call you a "tool designer". Clean, simple, very few parts, easy to use...the hallmarks of good design.

Thank you Dave for your fine contribution to the duckboats site. The vise was a very nice gesture. I am sure I will really enjoy it.

Thanks, Tom
