So cool ! I have wanted to build this boat since junior high when I got copy of Zack's book. I'm guessing like 1978, I think it will happen this summer !

Thanks Gentlemen,
This is the Zack Taylor Widgeon. So yes Perry it is not a real BBSB. The plans are from his book Successful Waterfowling. There is also plans on this site for the build. They are hard to read though. The book lays out step by step instuctions also. Craig, I also read this book in the mid 70's as a teenager. I always wanted to build one. So far so good.

Larry,
Awsome pics- I've been interested in seeing a Zack Taylor Widgeon built since getting a copy of his book in 2005. What type of wood are you working with?

Please keep the posts coming!

We have been using pine and spruce. The bow piece is walnut Cas. It was the only piece of 8/4 I had laying around. We found some nice 2 x 10 x 12 pine for the sides. Planed it down to 3/4. It worked out fine. Used spruce on the ribs. Hydrotek 1088 3/8's ply for the bottow. Around here there is not a lot of boat building materials. So getting by on what we can find.
Found the epoxy yesterday. So the 1088 is glued and screwed. May get to flip her over today.

Larry; thanks for the reply you are very talented and doing nice work ,keep the pics posted as you build ,always like to see the growth of a newly made boat.

Larry:
I think you'll really like this boat when it's finished. I built one about 15 years ago and continue to use it. My "Successful Waterfowling" book still opens automatically to that page. It's not a big water boat but will handle rougher water than you might at first think. A six horse moves the dog and I as fast I'm comfortable going.

I built mine similar to a stitch and glue boat in order to keep the weight down---with floorboards and hatch it's under 100 pounds. I put ice runners on the hull and added grassing/decoy rails. The runners help cut through ice and protect the hull on rocks and launch ramps. I attached a couple of pictures for your viewing pleasure.

Enjoy

Good looking work. I've worndered why these days more people don't build the boats in Zack Taylor's books.

Thanks Gentlemen!

Thanks for the pictures Steve. If this turns out half as nice as yours looks I will be happy. So you added the three runners after you glassed? Thats what I was planning on . But thought I would run her this summer to find out if I need the stablize her a bit. If you have a few picutures of the cockpit I would like to see them also. We fliped it Thursday and started finishing the deck ribs today. She is starting to look like a ducker.

My son removing the setup frame.
