Paint colors for scaup

Paint colors for scaup
I have seen several boats paint blue instead of traditional duck boat drabs. Does anyone have suggestions on what the best colors might be? I will use this boat primarily in nantucket sound and not in marshy areas so that scheme might work better. Thanks

The water color in your area will reflect the bottom color of the area--- for the most part. I have hunted in sandy bottom, rock, lilly pads etc. and find a great difference in bottoms. LAY-OUT BOATS do require some reasonalbe consideration for their paint jobs matching the bottom, but in general a splotchy gray with a bit of dark tan or lighter olive applied in a dabbing manner with a sponge usually does the job. If you are hunting the marsh in a regular boat--ie 14-18 aluminum then the same paint scheme as the above for lay outs also works well. The vast majority of answeres that I have read indicate---anything that looks muddy brown or muddy green-gray will do fine------the most important aspect in hunting from a boat with a blind or sitting in the marsh--DO NOT MOVE----time and again that is the general concesnus. While its fun to really get into the boat painting thing-----well after 45 years and gallons of paint----keep it simple and enjoy JERRY
