April what's on you workbench? No fooling

April is only a few hours away so it's close enough to start the new month's thread.

Here's what's on my workbench currently. A pair of Labrador Ducks primed and ready to start painting and a drake scolding wood duck. I told a few people about this wood duck at Westlake. The Labs are lifesize to maybe a little larger and the woodie is a magnum. All three are cedar and will be painted in oils. The Labradors are destined for a mantle so I didn't hollow them while the woodie is hollowed and very light. With the scolding pose I need him to sit right on the surface of the water so I took extra care in getting him very hollow. All three have Tohickon eyes.

painting 12 mallards right now--heads done for the next set--some other sbs in the offing--no pics, don't want to blind you all, plus, i hate putzing with a digital!
 
Well John...great looking birds as always. I haven't had a chance to play with my cork or cedar that I picked up at Westlake yet. But I did finish these up this evening....

Still another week or two before I can play with carving decoys.

one of my favorite threads, looking good all. i have something drawn up for the decoy swap, hope to contribute a picture later in the month.

At the moment in between trying to finish my workshop which is nearly done, I have 1 Euro widgeon made and 1 canada goose roughed out plus 2 mallards for painting and 3 magnem size heads which will be for my new cork rig, photo,s will be posted at a later stage as they become finished.

got my home remodel projects done and actually got to carve some last night. Mark Schupp was over last week showing us his method of using a power carver on heads. It was an eye opener and last night I had no problems grinding a new high headed wigeon out. It took about the same time it does for me to knife one but I can see the speed picking up quickly.

There not decoys but this is how I pay for my duck boat rebuilds, Euro mounts and antler boards. Just picked up these two big South Texas eight points last week. One scored 150 3/8 the other 154 5/8. The one mounted already is a west Texas ten point of mine that my dog was nice enough to knock on the ground while I was working on it, plaster everywhere! I'll be fixxing that today. And yes, there all low fenced deer.

Great stuff guys! Love the scolder, love the blubills, love that can! Steve are those short reeds? What wood is that? How does a guy come by one of your calls? Ver'nice!

I haven't posted up on one of these yet, gotta find my camera. Working on bird #2, a suzie to go with the greenhead. almost time to sand...and painting still freaks me out!
