A new sighting for me. This is a Crissal thrasher. Glad that I had the chance to see it. Interesting looking bird for sure.
I love the early morning hours by the pond.
Caught this guy pussy footing under the mesquite tree.
As I was sitting in my patio chair with my 400mm lens on my Canon, 14 baby quail came running up next to this rose bush that we have planted by the studio. In other words, since they were only three feet from my toes, it was impossible to take a shot. Finally they wandered back towards the pond for a drink. Dad was pensive, mom was still under a cholla.
Have you ever had your ------- --------?
I don't recommend "high noon" photography but I'm still glad that I went to Bosque del Apache!
Little does that poor yearling know that soon mom will be shagging it out of her life. Any time now she will be giving birth to hopefully twins.
The turkey vultures were busy looking for mice that had been caught up in the mowing activity.
This is a Mexican hen (we think). I showed these shots to the chief waterfowl biologist before I went home and both of us think her color is way too light. Anyway, in her brood of nine youngsters, there are several outstanding looking young Mexican ducks. I forgot to take my 70-300mm lens along.
It will be interesting to see how many Mexican/mallard hybrids will come out of that brood if any.
The youngster in the middle up front is a dandy looking Mexican duck.
I sure have had enjoyed my experiences over the last 48 hours.
