Been working on a set of pickleweeds for my own use, but have only completed the paint on three of the mallards so far. Thursday, I tossed them in the decoy bag before heading out with Sadie for a walk-in hunt at a farm pond that sits in the middle of a cornfield.

No boat and a very soft, muddy, boot-sucking bottom made it necessary to set the half-dozen I brought with me tight enough to the bank so I could snag the lines with a long stick at pick-up time.

I put the three completed stickups in the cover on the bank behind the decoys, and they were a perfect complement to the close-in decoy set. I'll definitely make sure the rest of these are done by the start of the second split, and make use of them whenever the cover allows.

Bob,
those look like they are tight out of one of Dave's Prints. What a cool way to add to the spread and keep your boots from getting sunk in the swamp mud.

Bob -
Those are way cool. I am stealing the idea and doing a few silos for a few spots I hunt. They won't be as nice as yours but you have to start somewhere.

Thanks for getting a little tradition to the MidWest.

If you still need your leaves raked let me know...) I will bring Ward...

Outstanding as always and a pleasure to see your beautifull decoys, you have given me some good idears where I can use those pickle weeds on my marsh close in on the shoreline, I have never seen them used over here in the UK. Thanks for posting the pictures.
Take care and God Bless

I guess if I owned some of these I would be "placing" them in the decoy bag! Loved that comment of yours, Bob!

Speaking of really loving something, there were two styles of decoys that you make that I really like. The first one is of the drake with his beak in the water and the second is of the relaxed looking drake, directly above the first one. Beautiful workmanship, Bob.

Good to see that Sadie got a nice work out.

Bob, the pic of the dekes in the water made me look twice. Incredible detail and body posture. What are the black fins that I am seeing at the tail end of the hens? Is there something there or am I just seeing something? dc
