well hello every one. it has been a bit since I have been hear and WOW how it has changed great content and format. the real question I am have is about stitching, I finally got it stitched sides ,transom, bow, all in place. measured it great, put in spreader bars, no longer square. do I put fillets between the wires before the speader bars? thanks

No. Work to get the boat back into square and level before you start the epoxy work. You may have to push or pull and loosen up some stitches to make this happen.

A boat building question how unusual ; )

Ray is right about getting your boat "true"...

Here is what I did. I "tabbed" between the stitches with some epoxy the consistency of maple syrup. Come back the next day and take the stitches out -- do only one section at a time mirrored - i.e. between two bulkheads on the port side and the same section on the starboard side.

Then of course fillet and viola - no stitches to take out.

I had all my bulkheads in place before I tabbed anything. I may be wrong on this, but if you don't your angles of your gunnels may no be right...

... don't tab or do any fillets until your wood is done. Phil's right, you won't have the final shape of your boat until the bulkheads are in place (I used wood screws to hold the bulkheads in temporarily. I used to freak about putting screws through the hull or sides - don't freak. When it's time to address the hull and sides a quick hole patch is just a swipe of a putty knife. Don't sweat it.

Always re=check the shape of your boat before and after you tab or fillet. Check it again and again for level and true. you can't do it enough. If your hull is twisted, the boat is doomed. And always measure your hull from the same reference - don't deviate.
