I had the privilege to hunt on the Rio yesterday and took what I thought to be a drake Mexican duck. After Chili brought it in I saw that it was another Mexican/mallard hybrid. Only had the three mallards fly by and I picked this one out because it was the largest. The other two had to be hens.
I was surprised that it was still hanging around this neck of the woods. Normally they are in Mexico by now. That will show you how warm it has been here. Yesterday was up to 66F.

It seems strange to see some dark brown curly feathers coming out of a tail that looks like it should be a hen.
Just a slight hint of a white ring.
The speculum has some teal color in it. This helps in identifying a Mexican duck.
Took these shots yesterday of Pepper's pups. They are now 3 weeks and 3 days old. Their teeth are just beginning to come through. Poor mom!
