Time at Bosque del Apache

First thing yesterday morning, you would have found me on the Rio. Around 7;30AM I took this shot of a flock of snows that were almost as high as the moon. Amazing how smart they are.

In the afternoon Bev and I decided to run down to the refuge and see what was around. With the late afternoon sun quickly falling in the western sky it presented us with some great opportunities.

Al,
Loved that Shoveler, we hardly ever see one in full plumage during the season.
Can you hunt BDA NWR?
Best,
William

Al - Great example of how to use late day light ...........couple of home runs there....I'll bet you were pleased when you first saw them !

All great shots. I like the backdrop behind the flocks of snows.

Pintail, shoveler, and snows; all things we see around here in about two months. As for now we just have a lot of ice.

How far are you from Albuquerque? My wife went to UNM. We've been back out there to visit a couple of times. It's pretty country.

Brillant shots, Love the ones with the craines, would like to use one as a screen saver on my home computer with your permission. Thanks for sharing, Scotty

Glad you liked those shovelers, William. The only time that BdA NWR is hunted is for snow and Ross geese. They have a drawing for adults and then they put on a youth hunt where the kids are given a two day seminar. It is a great program. The area is so large that guests who come there to look and or photograph, have no idea what is going on. However, all of these programs are published and posted. No one seems to have a problem with it.

Thanks, Sarge. Once in a while things turn out and a guy gets that lucky feeling.

I appreciate the comments, John. Hopefully in less than two months you will begin to see them come back. Bev and I live approximately 80 miles south of Albuquerque. If you ever get down this way, give us a shout.

Scotty,
You are more than welcomed to use them for screensavers. By all means you have my permission.
Glad you liked them.

Great afternoon lighting, Al. Gawd! shovelers are ugly!

These two shots are just for you, MLBob! I drove down there last evening specifically for this. Knowing how enamored you are with these little beauties made it all the easier to get there.
