This is the Scott Canoe that Bob Welsh found on Ebay and was inquiring about re-gel coating. Bob decided to have us paint it and, as it turns out, this canoe was only about 30 minutes from us. Picked it up last week and began working on it. It'll be painted with our FME in #35D (O/D Green Dark)(New Color) and Bob will pick it up after drying/curing.

Began painting process this evening (Wed) and got the first coat on the boat...FME #35D thinned 25%.



Boat is sanded, masked, tacked twice and ready for paint.

Boat is coming out nice Lou, The ash trim should set it off nice. This whole process turned out great, and this forum has some deep talent. Post a question ,get feedback, modify and learn. Ron,
Hard to say but...probably not. You would need to use a plastic primer (i.e. "fusion" as a possibility) and then you could use FME. Much depends upon the type of plastic in the canoe as well.
I'd contact Old Towne for advice if you can reach them.

Thanks Lou, I was afraid of that, but I thought I would ask. I guess that I will stick with covering it with a camo sheet.

I had good luck painting a Royalex canoe with the Krylon Fusion rattle cans. The Royalex has a vinyl outer skin. I am told the Fusion does not work well on rotomolded plastic canoes.

Lou- Is that the Albany 18'? I have a 21' Hudson Bay that we hunted out of last year. My only complaint is turning radius when picking up decoys and/or backing up to pick up decoys. Otherwise, I carried 39 corks, two guys and all our toys with lots of room left over.

I finished the 4th & final coat on the boat (sprayed thin) last Saturday and it's been curing since at 70 degrees in the shop. I want to give it a week and then you can pick it up whenever convenient.
I'll be in touch about picking it up and will post a pic later.

p.s. I guess a question I might ask would be...why do you want decals on it? Are they the factory type decoys/vinyl stuff? Just wondering.

It went well with my lavender and sea-foam green camo, but I got such a deal on that icky green color I had to make the switch. I could have left it that color,but I dont plan to shoot near Key West or San Francisco...not that theres anything wrong with that. bob

How about a nice OD green with some gold metal flake to pick up the dead grass tones?

The boat is finished, ready for reinstallation of the hardware. I sprayed 4 coats (thinned 25%) with 24 hrs between coats. The boat has now drying/curing and ready for a lifetime of work soon. :)

U da man Lou!!! Looks great& if you used that FME ya sell, it's going to be onthere for life. I used FME on my mallard& the last few hunts last year, I had to bust ice to hunt, some of it over an inch thick! The paint took it in stride, no chipping or scrapes! Bob you got a winner there!

Paddled in many a Scott Canoe in my younger days. Had friends who worked for Mid Canada Fiberglass who manufactured Scott Canoes when I was in High School.

Boat is done, cured, loaded on Bob's truck and back to it's new home in Chicago area. We gave the boat a good 2 weeks to cure and Bob came over to the shop and picked it up. Too bad he's 6 or so hours away as I'm sure we'd have fun hunting together. Fun project.

The boat made the trip fine (good boy scout knots) except that that old blanket under the ropes buffed the bottom to semi gloss. The workmanship was flawless and the boat is everything I had hoped. I'll tip my hat to Lou and encourage fellow forum members to use Lou's products. Top notch. Bob
