Youth waders

I'm looking for waders for my 12 year old. Any recommendations?

I just wonder if the youth model from macks will be big enough for him. I see in their reviews that guys get them for their 5 and 6 year olds.
It seems like he may be in between a youth and adult.

I'd like to get them a size big and try and get a few years out of them.

Thanks,

How big is he? At 12, he's likely to growing a lot in the next couple of years, so you might want to go with a smaller adult size if he can fit into it.

Do they make adult waders that are "mid-sized", or are the wader parts all the same size and they just put different boots on them?

I tried a pair of size 9's on him, but the wader part came up over his head.... he looks like a hobbit with them on and there's no way he could shoulder a gun with all that material bunched up on him... plus he'd never be able to walk very far in them.

What I'd really like to find is a set of waders for a small adult that he could wear for a few years. He seems like he's in between a youth model and adult model now.

Thanks,

There is a pair of wader's (size 6) for sale on page 3 of the classifieds. Not sure if it helps, but I thought I make sure you knew. I'm thinking about a pair for my daughter, but I really don't want to spend the money on new, when she'll grow out of them so quickly.

Those waders for sale are mine. Great shape and I believe size 6 however. Happy to sell them to a fellow DBHF member.

I have a pair of Macks prairie Wings neo waders in 1000 insuation. They are a size 10 in the youth style. I have a 12 year old son that wore them last year only and grew out of them. They are in great shape no leaks and are well cared for (new looking). They are in the buck brush color. They fit youth guys like teens great. My son is growing fast and I had to order him a size 11 for this season (this is getting expensive, 1 pair a season!) I can ship these to you if you would like them it sounds like they might be a good fit. Let me know if you are interested and I can send them to you (might cost a little for shipping but would be a lot better than the 200$ I paid for his new ones yesterday!
Thanks,

Kirk,

I ran into the same problem with my son when he was 12. His feet were size 10, but the waders for that size where way to big. So we got him some breathable waders with a size 11 boot. The breathable material is much lighter than neoprene, so it could bunch up without being interfering with shooting. We put an extra insole in the wader boot the first year so it wasn't quite as big on him.

He ended up growing eight inches in the next two years, but the waders still fit. I noticed this summer that his feet have finally outgrown the boots, so now I've got an extra pair of waders that have only two years of wear. Win-win.
