Maybe tomorrow---

Right at this time, I was planning on being out on the Rio Grande setting up my decoy spread, however it was not to be. Received an SOS call from a secretary and she needed help at the school, so today I'll be a 4th grade teacher. I was excited about going out today because everything is white. It has been snowing for a while and is supposed to continue all day.
Tomorrow the AM temps are right around 10F so I'll be set up on the Rio Grande and will be trying to stay warm.

Here are some pics that I took yesterday at the ranch that is finally starting to get some water that is seeping through from the river. I'm thinking that around Christmas time it will start being a good place to hunt--we'll see. The beaver pond is ready however the channel still has at least another 1/4 mile to go before the pond at the end will start to get some water.

Saw a report yesterday that showed Albuquerque with 3.65" of precipitation this year and normal is 9". Duck hunting and droughts don't go together but we'll make the best of it.

Pepper and Chili came along to investigate.

A good sized pond along the channel. I have a blind set up under the large cottonwood on the left/center side.

Every time I see this area I think of the pair of wood ducks that were sitting on the log going across the channel.

The channel looking north. Soon the ducks will find this area.

Ever so slowly! It will take some time for this water to get down to the end. I guess this year I'll have to wait until January. Under normal conditions I am usually hunting this spot in November. Since there will be no food for the ducks this year, it will be a resting area only. In past years where there has been adequate moisture this channel will have quite a bit of food in it. Basically speaking, the cows on the ranch have made sure all grasses have been eaten. Which reminds me---I had a talk with the rancher yesterday and he has sold over half his herd because of the lack of food. He can't afford to continue to supplement with alfalfa.

Took this shot through the window two days ago. Our temps finally got down to the point where our rose bushes in the front courtyard froze for the first time. As you can see, this ground squirrel is taking advantage of a nice meal. This is the first time I have seen one eating a rose bloom. Nothing goes to waste.

What a difference a day makes. They canceled school today. This snow is to continue until early tomorrow morning. I just hope I can get going in the morning. If the roads are too treacherous, I'll take my Mule instead of the truck. It will just take longer to get where I need to go. Some how I'll get my decoys in the water. We normally don't have snow plows taking care of the side roads. Took these two shots at 9:30AM.

I didn't realize that you got such cold temps there. We have been pretty warm here. everyone is xpecting a cold snap soon but probably not this week.

Great news!!!!!! 2 hour delay for schools tomorrow!! Ill be sitten my blocks with my trusty partner in the AM before school. For those of you who dont know....here in NM if it snows....even a little the state shuts down. Safer really because us desert ratys have noooo idea how to drive on snowy roads:)

Just another reminder of how wierd our season has been. You have more snow than us!!

Enjoy the rest of your season, I am only a day out and already getting giddy. Still a few more days to chase geese left.
