Bailey and I finally got the chance to get out today here in The AR/OK area. Schedule/weather/good hunting in Missouri have kept me from trying any of the local spots up until now. This last push of weather seems to have helped with the duck numbers. I hiked into a spot I'd scouted out this summer and jumped up gobs and gobs of ducks (that's a technical duck counting term). While I saw several different species leave, only green wings seemed to want to come back. I really tried to get 6 drakes, but the last shot hit the wrong duck. We were done in something like 30 minutes.....the wierd part is, Bailey and I didn't walk in until noon! I was figuring on this being a scouting mission and getting to put in several hours watching the ducks moving/etc. I ended up drawing in 2 other groups of hunters :) Bailey had some trouble because she couldn't see over the vegetation, but she got all the ducks and played hide and seek with one cripple for a few minutes. It's great to see her figure things out when all doesn't go according to the 'script' she's been trained with.
