Bow sanders

Does any one know of someone that makes and sales bow sanders, the size to use on decoys. I emailed a chap here that advertised a few years ago but had no luck.

Thanks in advance.

Scotty.

I made 2 out of pine that I got from home depot I cut it on the band saw in the bow shape and use belt sander belts cut long ways in half and staple it to the ends to compleat the bow. I have 2 one with a heavy grit and one with a fine grit. Hope this helps.

Here is one I made...got the "plan" off the internet, uses a standard (at least on this side of the pond) 1" belt sander belt and a piece of velcro to tighten it up. I had downloaded a file that I printed that had the full size template to draw out, I'll have to look at the home 'puter and see if I still have it.

Paul, why not make your own? Get a green branch like willow, mullberry ect.. A couple of fender washers ans screws. And a 1" sanding belt.
Bend the branch . Cut the belt to length , and screw. The branch will always keep tension on the belt. Cost about 2 dollars.
Good Luck.

hi there i use belt sand paper ,cut in strips 2inches wide 15 inches long and staple it to a piece of wood 13 inches long with 1 inch long piece at both ends ,so it looks like a upside down letter c .I will send a pic of mine .

Hi Paul ! I made quite a few bow Sanders just like the ones that the guys have pictures. They work well!
But about 20 years ago I desided I needed a motorized one, So a friend of mine made one for me from my rough design drawings. It uses the 1/2"sanding belt .The belt is 120 inches in diameter
I don't know how to post photos so I'll try to describe it. It sits on the floor on a metal base, the mounting post is about 6ft long and it has an 1/2hp motor. We carved about 100+ Brant and 50 full size Canada Geese over the years, and this sander was a great help.
I'll try to figure out how to post a photo, not that anyone would want to make one but just for general information.
Paul Rutgers saw it in action when he visited my Scull boat and decoy shop a number of years ago before my health problem He might have taken a photo that he could post.
Paul, I even might be interested in selling it now. Bob Hayden

Thanks again chaps, some great ideas. I cut some willow and Hazel this morning and will have a go with seans also have an old oak floor plank in the shed so will have a go at making a more serious one.
