So whats on your Workbenches?

Here's one from George Williams.....it seems the foredom found a thumb and this decoy has some DNA on it. I guess it's nothing the Goldens wont cover.

Here's one I've been messing with for WAY too long. I'm finally getting ready to seal some ashes in this one and then burn the cork and paint the head. It will not be headed for the water, but be a final resting place for a friends black lab.

Dave, believe it or not, it was the threads on a screw that caused a minor flesh wound--I was backing out one of the screws used to hold the body together when it bit me!!

looks like this month is off to a great start on birds and "Holy Grail" quotes!!!!

little teal in the bunch is also a sarcophagus for a hunting dog. Skoal can full of ashes epoxy'd and bolted to the interior center. none of the rest have any remains in them but are getting close to slinging paint onto them.

Looks like a busy month. Chris good talking to you at the show. A fun weekend! Here's a mini heron I had at Tuckerton and a pair for the rig.

Very nice stuff so far!

Jode - Neat heron including what you did for the base.

Tom - Looks like your putting in your time.

Spencer,

Every time I talk with Bobby Sutton (well.... Bobby does most of the talking), he always tells me what you're up to. Have a great year at school.

Doing that goose call last month for myself (the one with the acrylic inlays) got me thinking about whether or not it would be practical to do a "Custom Shop" call every once in a while without having to ask an arm & a leg for it. Decided I could probably do so. They're labor-intensive, but I can deal with that (one of the perks of being retired;-)). I'm going to work on a few in the coming weeks that I've decided to price the same as the all-acrylic goose call I've been making.

This is one that I did with a piece of awesome wood (figured hard maple) I found hiding in the "wood library." It didn't last very long, but it was too pretty not to post the pictures that I was left with anyway:

Good looking decoys, everyone. This BWT has been on my mind since I saw Geoff Vine's teal at the St. Charles decoy show. Maybe I'll get it painted before the end of the duck season.... We'll see. At the show I fell in love with the Toronto school decoys. I based this pattern of a Charlie Moore decoy.

Here is a buffy I sent to the Clayton, NY show this summer. Once I got it back I didn't like the paint, tail and bill. So I reworked the tail & bill, and then repainted the whole bird. Sent it off to St. Clair Flats show after I reworked it.

Hollow white pine body and head with hickory keel. Putting the finishing touches on the hen right now.

Drake pintail for Rockford, IL DU dinner in November. White pine with hickory keel and tail insert. All the white pine for these decoys was salvaged from a local barn built in 1865.

Lots of birds starting to stack up on the Val-Oil table. I'll have plenty of painting soon.

Drawing up original patterns is fun, but this pintail pattern required some weighting to balance properly. Pics show it going through the balancing, sealing, and final self-righting test processes. He will be a pretty gunner to set out when he's done.

Made a little shadow box display with a black duck wing, that I should have sent into the wing survey last year. I forgot I had it hanging in my shop to dry and never sent it. Burned in a little something on the back piece to dress it up a little. Luke
