12-29-12 LANGLEY, OK Capsized boat imperils hunters on Grand Lake. Two men from Grove are being credited with helping to save the life of a fellow duck hunter Sat. (12-29) on Grand Lake. The Grand River Dam Authority police said Harvey Erwin, of Claremore, and Josh Pridemore, of Tulsa, were hunting about 7 a.m. Sat. near Rabbit Island in the Horse Creek arm of the lake when their flat-bottom boat capsized. Both men reportedly became immersed in the lake. Pridemore was able to swim to shore, but Erwin could not and was forced to cling to the side of the boat in an estimated 10-12 ft. of water with a temp. of 41 degrees. Two other hunters in another boat, Curtis Tate and Winston Connor, heard the men calling for help and came to their aid. Police said Tate and Connor tried to pull Erwin out of the water, but he had been immersed long enough in the frigid water that his legs would no longer move. They were forced to pull him into shallow water and to a nearby ramp. Erwin and Pridemore appeared to recover fully from the experience once they reached shore and reportedly refused medical treatment after the rescue. GRDA police said the men were fortunate given the cold weather and the dangers often encountered in winter boating. Heavy winter clothing weighs a person down and can inhibit movement in water, especially with the shock to the body that frigid water causes. http://www.joplinglobe.com/local/x1633439873/Capsized-boat-imperils-hunters-on-Grand-Lake

12-27-12 WOODLAND BEACH, DE Duck Hunters Rescued After Boat Capsizes Near Woodland Beach. Delaware Div. of Fish and Wildlife Enforcement agents on marine patrol checking waterfowl hunters for compliance Thur. morning (12-27) rescued a pair of hunters whose small boat had capsized near Woodland Beach E. of Smyrna. According to officials, at around 9:30 a.m., Sr. Cpl. Drew Aydelotte and Agent Trainee Josh Hudson were patrolling the Woodland Beach marsh flats when they spotted the 2 men in the water about 100 yds. from shore, and pulled them aboard their patrol boat. Authorities said 36-y/o Mario Cipolla of New Castle and 24-y/o Kenneth Tolite of Wilmington, were duck hunting when their boat capsized just minutes before the agents arrived in the area. Emergency medical personnel from the Cheswold Vol. Fire Company responded to the scene and treated the 2 men for hypothermia. "We were glad to be in the right place at the right time to render aid," Aydelotte said. "Those hunters would have faced much more serious consequences if they had spent just few more min. in the water, which is currently around 43 degrees. Fortunately, they did the right thing and stayed with their boat, and we found them." Officials said the 2 duck hunters had 2 lifejackets aboard, as required for adult boaters in Delaware, but were not wearing them when their boat capsized. The vessel has not been recovered, and the cause of the accident remains under investigation. Cipolla was cited for hunting with an unplugged shotgun. No other charges have been filed. http://www.wboc.com/story/20440184/duck-hunters-rescued-from-water-near-woodland-beach
