Here are two decoys that started out (late 40s, early 50s) as Herters Model Perfect Bluebill Decoys. They are oversize and bodies are made of "Hard Santa Marta balsa" (no doubt of the "finest procurable" kind).
I first painted them as Whistlers when I was in high school. I repainted them again in the early 1980s - and added pine keels with lead in them because they would capsize in heavy seas. Unfortunately, in order to make them resemble Whistlers, I carved the bills down a bit (this was during the high school years - would not have done so later on). I would like to restore a pair now to look like Bluebills (Broadbill to us Atlantic Tidewater types...)
QUESTION: Does anybody have a Model Perfect Bluebill with an original bill? I would like to have a picture or two to work from.
Thanks very much,
SJS
