Ok have a guy that I have been talking to that has a layout boat for sale looking to see if any others have used this style layout boat before and how well the pull behind a boat and how the hunting is out of them. And what should the price be for this style boat ?

That looks like a Bankes to me.
I bought a used one for $500 recently.
They are very light, no need to tow - we take it insode the tender boat to where we are hunting.
It's been very effective for us.
You do need to be careful, as this style can 'roll' if your weight gets shifted too far to one side.
I am also 6'2" and 230lbs.

Hope this helps.

Lou, have you used this style boat before with success just really getting into layout hunting have been diver hunting for a while but looking to step up to layout

Hi Wes,
Had a chance and chose not to.
I also had a buddy who bought one at Pte. Mouillee years ago (back when we were doing the show too) and sent his friend over to pick it up. Friend put the boat in the water, knelt on the gunnel (as if to pee) and flipped the boat. He took it back and got a refund.
I do have some buddies who have used them in calm water and they are fine for that. I would not recommend it in big waters at all.

who kneels to pee....lmao......just saying

Micheal,

To directly answer your question, I for one, prefer to kneel on the floor of my boat and pee into a container. If you wish to "lamo" that is fine with me. Most men/males, who end up falling into the water from their boats, do so, when in the act of peeing over the side of the boat. A good share of those that do end up in the water end up drowning. Even though that may sound funny and humorous, try explaining the humor to the families of those that have drown in that fashion.

I have hunted one and found it worked best sitting on the bottom in very shallow water. That should give you an idea of how comfortable I felt in it.

That particular style... has been known to barrel roll...

I have an MLB classic... no problems jumping to my knees and shooting birds out the back door.. as for peeing.. I hate the cold water on my junk...

I've hunted from one a number if times. Getting into from the chase boat was always "exciting". Sort of like dropping onto a skate board from a moving automobile or stepping onto slick ice. It's pretty light, so your weight has a dramatic effect on it's action when stepping in and out. I never rolled it, felt pretty safe once I was in there. No way would I attempt to relieve myself while in that boat. Couple other insights: Foot room is lacking and the hard skirt makes holding your gun awkward.

Good luck!

I have one and agree with Terry's observations and cautions. Having said that we are happy with our Bankes which we use on a shallow lake for divers. Hunted last week in 20 mph gusts and 1' chop and boat was stable and dry. OK on big water I think as long as not too rough. Have hunted from a UFO layout boat and would make same observations, except I think it has more foot room than Bankes.

I know of one guy who anchored that model from both ends and rolled it in a heavy current.

bankes redesigned this model this year, 10" wider and longer

I bought one and have used it to kill a limit with this year.

the new design is very stable , lots of room, and is fairly light at 125 lbs.

I used to own a bankes hercules, the new boat is close but not the same, the hercules was a beast and incredible in all types of weather. but heavy and needed another truck to transport and another guy to load, almost 275 lbs.

experience will tell this year if the new one is as good as the old hercules. so far so good.

Look around for a MLB layout, a Bankes Hercules ( I have one and would not hunt open water any other way), a Kalash design, or buy one from Lou Tisch-all good all-around designs for layout gunning.
