i got an 03 kodiack 450. today it started slipping, for the first time ever. i was in the water for 2 hours or better busting ice, but still, its never got wet before. pulled the drain plug on the belt housing when i got home, water ran out (less than .5 liter) kinda greasy water. My question is, will it dry tonight to use tommorrow? No smoke, it just wasnt pulling when you gave it gas, and I didnt drive it but to edge of water and down turn row after it slipped. travis

it will dry but will never act the same agian you will need to replace teh belt at some point. that type system on the new 4 wheelers is a different down fall , my older one as long as I have a air pipe above the water to will keep going that is why I did not upgrade to newer model

A guy I work with showed it to me the other day. He wanted to know if that is what we do all day duck hunting. Wish I had a blind with that much going on durring a slow day. Reminded me of the dog and collar discussion with Steve last week. If you watch them make sure you look at #1, 2, and 3.

I have an 04 450 KodiAK. I have had water in my clutch several times. I have pulled the housing off to take a look and the clutch was stilled well greased and there has been no visible wear on the belt. Yamaha has one of the best clutch systems out on the market. If you realy want some excellent answers try atvfrontier.com. I am a member there and have found it to be an excellent source for atv info.

I agree with Eric. I have one also and it has been up to its a$$ in water with no problems. It does have the best system out there. I would think that after everything drys up it will work like it always did.

Hey! a post where I actually KNOW what I'm talkin about (since i work on the darn things 40+ hrs a week)! But what you need to do is pull the plug, put the bike in NEUTRAL and rev the motor up to normal riding speeds for about 5 minutes. if you already have it somewhere where it won't freeze overnight, then leave the plug out till you get ready to ride tomorrow. if not put the plug back in.

geez i love sounding smart!...LMAO

thanks for the replys guys. Actually the service manager from my yamaha dealership called me back a few minutes after I posted... I figgered I had missed him for the day and wanted some reassurance I wasnt figgin to tear something up/ or need to go borrow a bike for sundak. Came home last night around 1130, stuck the plug in, open ed the garage and ran it up and on the trailer half a dozen times (my neighbors love me!) and it did fine. So we took it this morning and no problems at all. In fact, the hole I busted yesterday morning and sat next to in my truck for 5 hours waiting for the ducks to fly till I couldnt wait anymore paid off... they musta visited it after I left, because way before it was lite nuff to tell it was water we had ducks landing and splashing. When the clock put the end to nighttime it was on like a chickenbone and freezing yesterday was well worth it... Just my brother and me, and tj my 9 year old who isnt shooting yet, and we where done before the mallards starting flying (they where trying to come in to our pit that was still 3/4 locked in ice while we where picking up deeks and had a 4 wheeler running on the deep side of the field! Shame i couldnt stay, but I had to get back, sure felt good to finally have a decent duck hunt this year. Killing ducks 29 minutes before sunrise with their neck full like a beanbag aint cool though.. luckily forcast is for a couple days of rain and that moon getting smaller every night... might actually be like NORMAL duck hunting next weekend.

the tipe about running it in nutreal to dry it out is priceless though... I bet if I didnt have time to wait, that'd be a lifesaver, Ill remember it.

I seen that video... wicked funny. travis
