"It's just an old duck wing, Caya."

I walked into the shop this morning and pulled down a drake widgeon wing from my drying line that I have stretched across the room. I wanted to see how Caya would react to something so totally different from her toys that I have been tossing her. It didn't take long to find out.

It was only 5 days ago that I tossed Caya, her favorite toy which was the blue elephant. Immediately, she ran to it, picked it up and brought it to me. I was thrilled to see this.

So this morning I introduced something totally foreign to her and got a much different reaction. I was surprised by this in a way but quickly realized this is to be expected.

Today I tossed that wing 8 times and she never brought it to me. In fact, she picked it up just twice, the last two times I tossed it. Then she went over to our welcome mat, laid down on that and started checking this new toy over. It was a fitting time to close the session. With a pup, I never want to "over do" anything even when it is so much fun. There is plenty of time later for that. After all, she just turned 11 weeks old today.

If you have ever watched the movie, What About, Bob. one quickly learns that Baby Steps are important.

Maybe I should have used a gwt wing. I just might do that in the next session. In the meantime, this was fun and interesting.

Al, you certainly have a knack for photography. I look forward to all the pics of the pups, ducks, and great scenery. Very cool stuff.

I'm sure she will get it. I believe a lot of dogs learn to deal with new things in 3 encounters. First time they are cautious, second time they are inquisitive and the third time they act like it is no big deal. A couple more times and she will be ready for hand signals. :)
Those first puppy 'attack' pounces are cute.

Haven't been around in a long time. Great to see the great photos are still coming, Al

Hey Bill. What a nice surprise to be able to read your comment. This made my day and I hope all is well with you. I was out hunting three days ago. With the two new pups and all that is going on in life, I don't hunt much any more. Got lucky and shot a duck so the dogs could hopefully remember what it is like to retrieve. They did!

Well,Tom, your comments were appreciated. I'm glad you like some of those shots that I take. I can only tell you that I'm forever thankful to my father and mother for giving me a camera for Christmas in 1957. It was a beginning---

I enjoyed reading your response, Tim. Have to admit that when I got here;" A couple more times and she will be ready for hand signals. :)" I couldn't help but chuckle.

Caya is one smart pup so we'll see how long those hand signals take.
