This right here is what makes Duckboats.net the best waterfowling site on the internet!

Outstanding generous offer sir! Outstanding find Nick!

What tickles me about this is Nick just signed up as a result of seeing the instagram recruiting campaign we've got going on (Nick, set me straight if I'm wrong on that). He comes here looking for something he hasn't been able to find and does some digging uncovering an older post and BANG he's got the plans on their way. Social media has some great benefits but sometimes the old school .com (.net) forums have the info you want. Our archives run deep, like our community.

Eric,

I?ve actually been lurking for a while, followed you guys on Instagram recently. I originally found my way by looking at the devlin scaup. The rest however, is 100% true. Spoke to Koz this evening, great connection. Love it.

Thanks. Glad to be here. Will definitely post them. As for the scaup, can anyone attest to how it fairs in larger water? I do a lot of my early season hunting in the backwaters with a motoryak, but once it gets cold it?s salt marshes and Long Island sound. Would the 18 handle something like that?

Nick

I had mine in some rough chop, honest to goodness 3' crests spaced closely together and was never worried, but I don't know what conditions you face. Some Scaup owners on the main forum might be able to help you out if they are keeping up this time of the year.

Nick, I have a 16' Scaup. I run about 4 miles sometimes in some nasty wind and waves, and while it can be a wet ride, it was never uncomfortable for safety. I suppose if we had significant ice build up due to the wind and spray it might be different. Mine is currently underpowered, running a 25hp. The design is rated for a 40 hp, and I will upgrade to a 40 or 50 if I can find the right motor in my budget. I spent most of the time running the 25 at WOT.

Usually when waves are more than 3 we dont go out. Weather changes quick in the sound sometimes. I figured the 18 may be a little sturdier out there with the wider beam, but we have a 19 CC that We use for a tender for the 2 man layout we use closer to NY, but not sure how the scaup would fare going out there. It?s only 9 miles to cross the sound, so half of that, but my experience on bigger water has always been a CC fishing boat, sailboat, or something like a bankes. Then again, those all take away the allure of building my own boat!
