These two had their first litter. Most are now in their new homes and already we are missing them.

Bev's granddaughter and her boyfriend came down to visit. Pups sure had fun!

Yesterday I drove up to Santa Fe and met a customer from Taos. Jameson will be back packing in the mountains before he knows it. Now I'm wondering if he will be downhill skiing this winter?

Mateo loved the water.

Bev had given these pups a bath and we put them out in the courtyard to play until they were picked up.
Gus loved the spot he found. Right now he is with his new family in El Paso, TX.

Cuchillo Negro aka Black Knife has already made her first big retrieve and that was her new owner's flip flop.

For those of you who don't care for dogs/pups here is one for you. I had a surprise visit from a former 5th grade student of mine when I taught in Wausau, WI back in the 70s. Russ is now 50. We decided to go for a ride in the Mule and I drove him over to a spot where I hunt teal. Ironically I was showing him the spot where I had been hunting one morning in the middle of Sept a few years ago and had a large female western diamondback rattlesnake curled up one foot from my left leg. We decided to drive on so I started the Mule and that is when we both spotted this guy crawling across the dirt trail that we were on. Russ loved it as much as I did because we both had our cameras busy.

In about two months I'll be back here carefully picking my spot for the blind if we have any water by then.

Al, Thanks for sharing the pups, it must be hard to let them go but it sure looks like they all have very bright future homes. I suppose you get used to serpents but they do freak me out.

Steve, I appreciated you taking the time to make that reply. I hope that feeling lasted all day long.
Al

You are welcome, Tom. The one thing that Bev and I have enjoyed so much would be the people we meet who are getting the pups. Very interesting.

As for the serpents, you just have to be on guard when in their territory. When I walk towards the Puppy House in the evening when it might be very warm outside, I take my flashlight and am always careful. Yes, our home is in their environment, also.

Very nice Al, thanks for sharing your family. Looks quite green in your neighborhood, have you been getting some rain?

Well, Pete, I don't see green like you do but I do know that we have had roughly double the amount of rainfall that we normally have by this time of the year. It has been wonderful.
The pond I hunt at the ranch is full of water and this is great. Normally it doesn't have water in it until around Thanksgiving. Another unusual thing is that the Rio Grande has never dried up this year. It is a good thing.
Al

Tom you are so correct in your assumption. Funny how much work you put into raising a litter but when you are dealing with puppies it just doesn't seem like "work".
Al

Cute pups! I'm glad to hear you are getting some rain.
Are your pigeons multiplying?

Tim

Thanks, Tim. My birds had a great year and even with all the moisture we had I lost none to canker. I have more than made up for the losses incurred by hungry Cooper's hawks. It has been a very good year, Tim.
