Long Island september trip

Well this trip was not for a funeral, it was business. A friend of a friend bought an 87 ft motoryacht, and wants a bunch of work done on it this winter when he brings it down to Florida. He wanted me to fly up and look it over, so we will be ready to hit the ground running, when he gets here. While up there I had to see some old friends and this is one of them. Those of you who saw the Great South Bay Broadbill video should recognize this guy as my old friend John Verbeke. Everyone should have a garage like John's. The rafters are full of duckboats, Ice scooters and tons of other hunting collectables. The decoys on the back wall in the picture are just the tip of the iceberg. John has a fantastic memory, and tell you about just about everyone of them. The same goes for inside Johns home, a virtual Great South Bay duck hunting museum. I loved every minute I spent with John, and promised to come back and spend a little more time, at a future date. And Oh! did I mention cars? John Has his first car, a hot rodded 49 Chevrolet, and a 61 corvette under blankets, just waiting to be awakened on a sunny warm spring day! Regards Rich

Good morning, Rich~

A nice tribute to John - truly one of the "Grand Old Men of Great South Bay".

Did you happen to find the giant shoehorn he must use to put all of his stuff in there?

All the best,

SJS

Is that deer so ugly he really needs a bag over his face?

Poor fella

Actually, Dani, my first thought was our general rule of what consitutes a shooter: Any buck whose rack is at or just outside their ears (basically a 17" inside spread).
But, they actually have to have ears...!

That buck was shot by John's dad sometime in the middle of the last century. Looks like the moths or mice took their toll on it. Maybe time to convert it to a european style mount. Rich
