Hi all just a question about new jersey boat registration
I have a 12ft bbsb that was built in 1957 and i just finally finished redoing. Do i need to get it registered and how as it hasnothing in the way of paper work or as far as i can tell never registered before.i looked on nj motor vehicle web site and as far as i can tell it says bigger than 12ft.
What have all you guys done or do you not worry about being stopped in the middle of the winter with out it being registered

Make a list of materials and take it to DMV and claim that the boat is home made. They don't usually give you a problem

NJ will require a vessel with power to be registered. so unless you are going to sail or row.. DMV is your next stop. They do require an HIN# and that boat - most likely aint gonna have one. YOu may need to make it home made and obtain a vin assigned from them. You will need your Auto insurance info to register the boat as NJ does not care about boat insurance - just the car/truck towing the vessel is mandatory. you can go to the NJ website and there is info specific to this topic there... Good Luck. And yes- they will issue a ticket in the winter.. - at the ramp!!

You'll have to take the boat to the local Marine Police station and have them look it over and they will issue a Hull ID number.

Had to do it to my Fricke Box that was built to be on display in a restaurant when I rescued it from the place.
