the devil in the red dog

the old red dog has had a series of growths
some in his lacrimal puncta

had some on his inner eyelids

i took him to dr bliss at the so. or eye specialists

they did a fine job

he has a big one that has just started to bloom over the last couple of weeks that is mid span between his elbow and wrist on the inside of his front leg

i haven't addressed the ones near his nose
i always figured he'd knock em off as he was rooting around
those things seem to have hung on somehow

the last few times i saw the Dvm I indicated he'd need a muzzle
not because he was a mean dog

but because he is terrified of the whole thing at the Dvm

before the old boy took me on
he roosted a chicken coop near his owners house

reckon his instincts drove him to it
he is a bird dog

well
the folks that ran the coop decided it would be a good idea to put a .22mag right between his liver and his diaphragm and let fly

the old boy took fire

his people dragged him in to the vet and he was under stress
they didn't have any money to pay for anesthetics and their reversal

so the vet dug in and around with his tools to no avail
the dog changed under pressure

this lovable floppy eard red dog
shouldered up against the nurse and staff and snapped and snarled

there was a devil within him that had somehow been poured loose

i suppose that dogs and people may do this

under such intense pressure
they become entirely different beings

almost unrecognizable
he has had a real terror at the Dvm ever since

i have to take him in to get this thing frozen off before we embark in a month
on our grouse trip

i know he's going to struggle with it
muzzled and strapped

I'll drop some trazdone on him an hour before we get there

Hopefully we can convince the old boy to put the devil back.

Wish us luck.

Good luck.

I always enjoy reading your posts, don't forget to post up some pictures and a few stories about the aforementioned grouse trip.

Hello again Todd. Been a while since I read up on the old site. But I always enjoyed what you felt and how you expressed it in writing. Seems to me you're both happier and sadder than the average bloke and I hope you find Grace in that. It's a gift. Thanks.

Well, the vet was able to do a fine needle aspiration on the growth and checked the cells.
It appears to be an adenoma.

She noted that it has some cells that they had never seen before, so she advised to remove the tissue.

We were all set to go back today and she called me just before I walked out the door to reschedule for tomorrow. They didn't have the staffing for today.

You should have seen the boy at the Vets, he was fierce, I had medicated him and all it seem to do was slow him down all day, but not at the vets.

I had him muzzled, and they couldn't even check his pulse or get a stethoscope on him.

He seemed to be pretty happy to leave that place.

It is a terrible feeling.
to be scared and trapped at the same time. Guess you got to get mean in order to fight you way out.

I am hopeful that after his procedure tomorrow, he will be healed up in time for stoping for grouse in mid sept.

I'll keep you posted.

Greg,

That is a nice thing for you to say.

For me, writing is a "happy accident."

I am uncertain that it is "poetry" though.
It must be the way you are reading it.

The old red dog has pulled through

Histology due in a day or so.

Got the truck packed and a case of 20g #5.

I will get that dog out to hunt if I h!'ve to carry him.

Somehow, I think he is approaching his moment to shine

Well, here is the update.

The red dog is on the mend

they were able to remove all of the lumps and bumps and suture them up

i'll probably yank the sutures out at home
he'd be more comfortable that way

I am uncertain what has suddenly brought on his right rear knee issue
he took a spill on the hardwood floors back in about 2008

looks like now it is resurfacing

Dvm gave me 100Mg doses of Vetprofin
but i have not gone there yet

figure i'll let the old boy rest up some

those meds can foul up his liver

a dog with 3 good legs is still a good dog

a dog with a crashed liver is a dead dog

what would Hippocrates do?
