Looking for advise on getting a motorcycle NDR

I spent the last two and half days at a Harley Davidson riding school and this afternoon passed my test, on to the DMV for my motorcycle endorsement.

I have been looking at bikes for awhile, and think I want either a dyna wide glide or soft tail. As this is my first real bike, not going to spend a lot, so will be late 90s, probably higher mileage, something from craigslist.

Thoughts/advice??? (Besides take it somewhere for an inspection)

You'll find great deals on Craigslist. Newer is better. Many folks get a bike and find they don't have the time to ride so it sits in the garage Year after year and gets sold with low miles. If you're looking at long highway rides, I would consider the FLH type (Electroglide, Road King) with adjustable air rides suspension. Also, wind shield vs. fairing. In the wind the Road king won't tire your armies out like a Streetglide. Bottom line, bags are nice for leathers, raingear and toolkit. Riding conditions change and you want to be prepared.

Ron is right,

Craigslist is great to get a good deal on a used bike.

I never rode an HD, I always had a 650 thumper Honda XR.

The best time to get a used motorbike is right around Halloween when the rain comes rolling through.

Then you have to watch over it in the garage until the sun comes back out.

People always asked "what do you do when it rains and gets cold?"

I'd say, "Well, you get cold and wet."

Ditto on Rons comments. Get the newest/biggest bike that fits your budget. A Queen seat is a necessity if it fits "your" lifestyle. Great stuff.

Use it to scout your next hunt from the highway and beware of the need to stop suddenly. It Happens to all riders quite often. Be ready. Always. Have fun.

I've owned two Softail and 3 Harley touring bikes. The heritage would make a nice ride as it has saddle bags.Im a big fan of the touring class it's just a better ride to me,right now I'm on a road king but have owned an ultra and a street glide.I would want something w the 6 speed transmission and electronic fuel injection at least.

With all the nitwits on the road smoking pot and texting i would suggest something more substantial like a three quarter ton truck with a lift kit.

This from an old "sickel" rider, my last was a 6 cyl Honda CBX.
