August Workbench

Bob & Tim~

Excellent work, Gents! I'm STILL cleaning/organizing my storage spaces and shop. I ope to actually start producing stuff in a couple of days.

In the meantime, George Williams asked me to post this photo of his Pato Maceiro:

We North Americans know this South American species as Yellow-billed Pintail.

All the best,

Tim, I love that box. That's great artwork there. Especially love the pheasant...outstanding work

Thanks Bob, Steve and Dani.

I wanted some more practice on a dog portrait so I chose this truly spectacular subject. I had taken a couple photos of Deuce's mother and found a couple more on the internet. I had been planning to stop by the breeder soon to see his new male he is currently training. I'll drop this off for him as a thank you for producing such wonderful dogs. I hope he likes it.

Tim

All~

As I have mentioned, I have been working since early May just to clean and organize most of the storage spaces here. The last leg was my shop/studio itself. I will be posting an extensive "shop tour" soon, but, I thought I would share this little project first. Since I built my shop (2008-2010), I have been wanting to upgrade the "entrance". I have been stapling down a piece of cardboard right inside the main door to give some protection to the pine flooring. The cardboard has served me well, but I have often thought of trying an old technology: a painted canvas Floor Cloth.

As part of my Magnum Cleanup, I needed to discard some old - but large - paintings (not mine) on canvas. Rather than cart them to the dump, I cut out the canvas and cut up the pine frames for the stove. A couple of days ago, I trimmed the canvas to make 5 pieces suitable for Floor Cloths. Each is 33.5 inches wide - but lengths vary. Yesterday, I began my first experiment. I am relying mostly on "scrap" latex paint that surfaced during the cleanup. I drew the flying Broadbill about 25 years ago - for signs at the South Shore Waterfowlers Annual Duckboat Show and Waterfowl Festival.

I still need to put 3 coats of spar varnish on it before I tack it to the floor. I am anxious to see how it wears. It seems like just the right amount of abuse could give it a bit more character. Only time will tell....but I can always get more cardboard....

All the best,

SJS

Boy, all that work is top notch.
I wish I could paint or carve.

Good morning, Tom~

No sand. I'm counting on you are your family to grind in some Washington County gravel.....

See you soon,

I am frustrated. Wonder why GOD gave so much talent to Bob,Tim Steve and George and so little to poor old me? Guess i was in the wrong line. But that doesn't stop me from enjoying it.
Excellent work all.

Giving the new forum changes a try. My carving club asks us all to wear name tags. I guess we cant remember everyones name. Anyway, we are allowed to use whatever design we want to in creating our name tags. I finally finished mine.
