Teal season

Still debating whether or not to hunt teal season; mosquitoes, gators and the heat make it a tough call to get out of bed at zero-dark thirty!
Especially since its so "feast or famine" down here on the coast.

No gators or snakes in Ohio. I can handle the mosquitoes as long as teal show up. I respect your thought process.

Wish we had a teal season here in jersey. Not that I mind shooting greenwings at all but all of the blue wings are gone by the middle of october when the regular season opens up. Only ever killed 1 bluewing out of the couple hundred teal I have killed in my life time. Teal are so much fun and would love not only a few more opportunities to hunt them but the chance to kill something a little different. Good luck with the little guys though, and post some pictures.

If its any consolation, most of the bluewings are gone from here by time our regular season opens too.
I've been hunting coastal AL since 1997 and looking at my records, I've shot less than a 1/2 dzn bluewings during regular season in all those years.
Used get lots of greenwings back when my buddy had a mudboat and we hunted the shallow weedy bays.

Lucky! Teal doesn't open til the 9th here in Kansas. 18 more days. I've heard there are some marshes nearby that can be very good for teal. I aim to find out.

I can't imagine dealing with gators in the dark. Ever have a motor pick up a downed bird before you get to it?

Yes, we've had small gators take teal before we could get to them.
Small gators are mainly what we deal with (3-5'), the big ones usually keep hidden anytime people are out & about. Its pretty creapy to swing the spotlight in the dark and literally see 40 or 50 little sets of red beady eyes all over the place!!

Mainly we just like to brag about hunting along side gators to freak everyone up north out.
Other than birds getting eaten, the only real problem with gators is that we can't use dogs, there is absolutely no reason to risk the life of a dog by hunting it during early teal season here.

When our office complex (5 Rivers Delta Center, google it) was under construction, one of the workers kept bringing his lab to work with him & playing fetch in the bayou behind our office. He was warned multiple times there was a 10-12' gator in the area. He didn't listen, and sure enough the dog was eaten one afternoon while swimming. Tragic.

It works.
