Gordon MacQuarrie exhibit

Back at end of June, a burg called Barnes, WI,which is placed near the shores of a lake roughly shaped like a boot, unveiled the new headquarters of the ODHA.

Keith Crowley, MacQuarrie biographer, gave a slide show presentation and excelled with anecdotal information from interviews with MacQuarrie relatives and friends.

The Barnes Area Historical Society did an excellent job in presenting artifacts, and the local knowledge provided by area guides like Save Evenson, made for a tremendous day.

We ALMOST got Tom Scholberg up. While disappointing he wasn't able to make it, Nick Ronning was a boon companion in chasing tales and locations.

I may write more, have been very pressed for time lately.....

A stop by Mac's favorite river, The Namekagon.

The rest stop, with the Purell that went with it, as a commentary to the "freshness" of the rest stop along the Namekagon bluffs...

The area hunted in Just Look at This Country, in similar conditions.... also found a high hill pothole, with ducks on it!

Of course, I had to wade the Brule at the Winnibijou bridge....

More to come.... Out of time and attachment space......

The Tottagatic Flowage, now known as Nelson Lake, contrasted with the Tottagatic River wildlife area across the street. Hard to envision Mac and Mr. President launching from this dam, on to the now Nelson Lake, to beat Carl with their oars in To Set a Thief..... Nelson Lake is a cabin/resort paradise where the pontoons compete fishing boats at ramps and bar docks....

Rob, Thanks for posting pics. I sure wish I had been feeling good enough to make the trip. I appreciate the offer of a ride but probably wouldn't have been much fun. Next time I get in that part of the world I will have to stop in Barnes.

I love the snapshot of the PBR sign.

We've got a little restaurant, and the only beer we have is PBR pounders.

Folks come up from california and they ask, "do you have any beer?"

I say, "Indeed I do, the finest beer in the land"

Then they ask the brand. I say, "Pabst Blue Ribbon"
they get a confused look and say, "Is that an asian beer?"

I say, "it is the only beer."

They either get a couple of em, or they panic and go with a chardonnay.
