Thinking about building a Black Brant III....

I havent posted anything in a while bit I am about to order plans to build a Black Brant OK I. I built a Kara Hummer back in 2009. It still is working fine but i want a little more cover, speed and room to take some one with me. Does anyone have pictures of their builds? Any suggested modifications? Ect. I do think i may build a tank for it and possibly a longtail motor when the hull is done. I'll make sure to post pictures as i go but hunting season is almost upon us here in Iowa. I know I won't have it finished for this season.

You will like that boat, it's a perfect size for 2 hunters and gear. I built one back in 2012 and ran a longtail on it, I modified mine a bit by removing the rear rocker in the hull and moving the motor well by moving the transom all the way back to the rear, I would suggest that if you plan to run a longtail-it's an easy mod to make. All my photos are on photobucket but here is a link to the BBIII album-

Again, What is the benefit of removing the rocker? Other than moving the motor mount to the rear and getting rid of the pods (effectively) Andrew's is to print, and his 23hp (I think) LT works great as is... or so he says. He even claims that he out performs a surface drive on a aluminum flat....

Doesn't the BBIII have all or most of the rocker removed in the design already? As opposed to the BBI and BBII?

On the BBIII, there isn't a whole lot of rocker to remove, so it's not really a big deal. I just did it on mine because I wanted a dead straight keel line, it jumped up on plane very quickly but probably not enough to matter much. A 23 is probably ideal for the BBIII also.

We moved the transom to the back (double thickness), gas tank up front, 23hp Backwater Mud Motor gets on plane nicely with myself and a normal hunting load. I wouldn't be afraid to put a 27hp on it. Let us know if you have questions.
