I did not see Ken Barnett around his gunning coffins - but did have the presence of mind to snap the shutter.

Jode Hillman is another top carver - but we spent our time talking about his Rail Skiff and his adventures with Soras and Virginias and Clappers. Whilst awaiting our table at dinner on the previous night, I saw and heard my first Clapper Rail in over 20 years - there being precisely NO saltmarsh in Washington County.

More camera work in 2018....

All the best,

Steve, it was good to see you again and to meet Jamie. Tuckerton is always a great time! But as a vendor it is near impossible to see the rest of the show. Excellent that you got to hear a clapper. Maybe one day you will find yourself in the front seat of the skiff! A couple shots From gunning yesterday.

So what do you do with Rails? Anything! Here my take on Classic "Down Jersey" chowder. A Few ingredients? Fresh Sora rail, wild mushroom, acorn squash, Delaware bay oysters, and wild rice gather from the bottom of the skiff, threshed and cooked. Not one ingredient other than the dairy came from the store.

Steve, Thanks for sharing, this is a must do for me. Just need some info on a dog friendly motel in the vicinity.
I did however attend Ohios "waterfowl swap meet" near Mansfield and Michigans "pte mouillee waterfowl festival" as a vendor selling off my "surplus"
Met lots of good people some whom i have sold decoys to in the past and who attended Tuckerton.
Hopefully next year.

Steve - As always it was great seeing you and taking some time to chat with you. This was my first visit to Tuckerton and I was not disappointed (neither was Randi) we are both looking forward to attending next year.

While I enjoyed the displays of old & new decoys, boats, paraphernalia and gunners (again old and new). Randi mostly enjoyed petting and hugging just about every dog whose owner would let her.

I hope you will be down for South Shore Waterfowlers Association Duckboat show in November so we chat some more i.e.:ask more questions.

Joe
