Best Finish For Boat Seats

I have an 11 year old Lund 14 footer. The wood seats are getting dull and I would like to spruce them up a bit.

I was thinking of giving them a coat of satin spar varnish. Would this be the correct product for this application?

Good morning~

I am not familiar enough with Lunds to envision the seats - got a photo? I am wondering if the existing finish is simply worn and dulled - or has it been worn down to bare wood and discolored ? Do you know the species of wood ?

All the best,

SJS

There are a few pictures of the seat material used on Lund boats on this link -

It is a plywood with some type of veneer cover? On my boat the plywood is in good shape but is getting dull.

Varnish certainly cannot hurt.

I would use a good marine varnish with plenty of UV filters. I'd first sand with 220-grit, wipe down with a tack rag - or a least a rag with turps or acetone or alcohol, then 3 coats of varnish. I use sponge brushes and steel wool and wipe between coats.

Hope this helps,
