My shop is a little cozier now.

While cleaning out Jeff's possessions I ran across some decoys he carved before I met him out in his hawk house (he was a master class falconer but hadn't flown any birds in 20 years). He made a rig of ringers and bluebills and gunned them for a few years before retiring them. Among his stuff, and I'm still uncovering things, I found a box full of half finished heads, enough cork to fill up my truck bed several times, patterns, bottom boards, and glass eyes. As a reminder of Jeff and our friendship I put up some shelves at the workshop with his decoys, retired ones as well as never completed. A few of the decoys also on display are from friends I've made though duckboats.net too.

I think they make the shop just a bit warmer and certainly give me satisfaction knowing just one of Jeff's many talents will be seen by anyone that comes in my shop.

Nice Eric.

I have a few birds (like the blueyed teal that Lee Harker made me) in my rig from a couple of people who have passed on and all the birds have a little extra meaning to me as well. It's a great way to remember people by...

Nice work on the shop too

Good morning, Eric~

Great tribute - and some fine-looking birds, too. Even those "unfinished" heads catch my eye.

All the best,

SJS

so is that a war room? map room, or just the resource location???? lol... add a cot and you don't have to leave!!

Given the diversity of his interests and personality, I can just imagine the piles of random highest quality bullshit that he left behind (I think this will be true for many of us). Wow, what a job to go through his stuff. What a sad thing to have to do.

Great tributes as well!

100% accurate. For example, Jeff would buy quality old woodworking machines and take them apart to restore. He didn't complete about ten so I'm trying to piece them together. From a 3000 pound 9 1/2' tall 36" band saw down to measly 350 pound drill presses. The parts piles are daunting.

Great job Eric.

I saved a pair of Scaup from my late hunting partners rig in the house but the rest are still in "Our rig" along with the misc. coot, GE and such.

Nicely done. A fine tribute to a friend and a reminder to spend time with the people that are important to us. We just never know when they will be gone.
