Thanks everyone for all the well wishes on my retirement. It has been just over a week now and I am loving every minute of it. Working on some "must get done before winter" projects, right now and still have time to get in a bit of fishing. Need to do some shopping for a new set of trailer tires. Came home the other day and noticed one tire on the parked trailer was real low. Found a piece of wire in it. Realized the tread was getting thin so I think a new set is in order.

Wow Dave, what's going on[huh] You're racing around like it's .............Monday[w00t] You've got the rest of your life to get that stuff done. You have to learn to relax - LOL

Actually I've been sleeping in, no more getting up at 4:10am to be at work by 4:45am. Now I sleep till 5:30,,, sometime even later! I will admit that the weekend came and went without much notice. Only thing different was there were more folks fishing down by the dam one day. I picked up some lumber yesterday at a big box store, middle of the day, not nearly as crowded as any other time I've been there in the past. Yes, this is nice.

I have to laugh at my kids comments the other day on working and life. Our Daughter has been employed for 4 years or so now and our Son had a full time internship last summer. Both commented on how can you have fun with work getting in the way. They said they get home after work and have enough time to do one thing fun, if even that, and then it is the daily grind of life (dinner, cleaning, fixing, working, etc....) My wife and I just laughed and told them wait till you get you own house or two, have kids and so on. They think it is difficult now. Told our son to not be I a hurry to start his new career next Spring (he was just offered a full time position with the company he interned for)

After the discussion with the kids, the topic of Diane and my retirement came up again. A mentioned, I get "my numbers" April 1 and can chose to retire at that time. Will take a hit on pension and stuff but if you keep waiting t retire until you can get just a little bit more you will be working forever. Wife thinks she still wants to work after next April but cut back if her boss allows her to do so. I like that idea - she works and I stay home and be the trophy husband [w00t].

I am envious Dave on your current retirement. Enjoy every minute of it as it has been well earned and deserved. Take time for the little things and don't be in a rush for anything.

TROPHY HUSBAND!!!!!!![w00t][w00t][w00t][whistle]

For the first time, we are jealous of Dave... he sure is enjoying that!

Dave

Now that you have retired will you ever operate a lathe, mill, etc. again? Any interest in machining for fun or did you get all you could stand during your career?

Eric

Eric,
I could see myself doing some as a hobby. I have a friend who has a small shop with the basic machinery. I'll probably leverage our friendship for the occasional project. If I won the lottery, I could see a full CNC shop for both metal and wood projects. Then again, I'd probably feel guilty when not using it because I was outdoors pursuing outdoor hobbies. So many things I enjoy, what to do first is the question. I have found I can be just as happy sitting on the river bank catching bluegills as sitting offshore catching tuna. Wouldn't want either to be my only option, yet enjoy doing both.

Guess I'd best describe me as a jack of all hobbies.

If you get into your friends shop, he'll have you working part time. I retired and got a two day a week job [great fun]. By the end of the summer I was working six days a week, had to quit...
Look around craigslist or ask around, you'll find machines. Looked for a lathe, found one for free, just remove it. Now you have 6 saturdays and a sunday...

I have limited space,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, which is both a curse and at times, a blessing.

It is a Blessing.

When your retired, be retired from what ya used to do for a living, and open new doors.

It's not easy to walk away from all the knowledge and experience, at times it does tug at you.

Resist!

Have FUN, and you will be surprised at how many other things will fill you days and your life.

my 2 cents

A year from now you,ll be so busy doing stuff you,ll wonder how you got stuff done for yourself when you worked full time. The things at home you use to shrug off till a more convenient time now becomes priority. And the best part of it is theres still plenty of time for hunting and fishing. Nice being your own time keeper!

You'll only wear a watch during hunting season.

Many times the day and the date of the month will elude you, when not doing something outdoor related and you won't care.

"I don't understand your point. [whistle]"

I'm wondering, since you're trying to sell your hat in the classifieds, if the sun's getting too hot fer an old coot like yourself??
